What is Biology?

 Biology is the study of life and living organisms.
Its derived from the Ancient greek words "bíos" meaning "life" and "logos" means "to study".

Branches of Biology
 

There are soo many Branches of Biology 

 1- Zoology = To study about animals

2- Botany = To study about plants.

3- Microbiology = To study about microbes like protozoans, bacterias, viruses etc..

4- Morphology = To study the size, form and structure of a living organism.

5- Anatomy = To study internal structures of an organism.

6- Histology= Study of Tissues

7- Cell Biology = Study of cells and cell organelles.

8- Physiology = To study the function of different body parts 

9- Genetics = To study the genes and their role in inheritance

10- Embryology = To study different stages of embryonic development.

11-Taxonomy = To study naming and classification of an organism.

12- Paleontology = Study of fossils

13-  Environmental  Biology= To study about environment and interaction of an organism with the environment.

14- Sociobiology = Study of social behaviour of those animals which make societies

15- Parasitology = Study of parasites like Mosquito, some bacterias etc

16- Biotechnology = practical application of living organisms to make substances for the welfare of mankind. 

17- Immunology = study of the immune system of animals, which defends the body against invading microbes. For Example: How White blood cells engulf foreign particles is actually an immunity study.

18- Entomology = Study of insects

19- Pharmacology = the study of drugs (medicines) and their effects on the systems of the human body.  

20- Molecular biology(Biochemistry) =  Study of molecules of life e.g what is the role of water, lipids, carbohydrates, proteins etc in maintaining life.

21- Biophysics = It deals with the study of the principles of physics, which are applicable to biological phenomena. For example limbs of animals work on the principle of the lever in physics.

22- Biochemistry = It deals with the study of the chemistry of different compounds and processes occurring in living organisms. For Example Study of photosynthesis and respiration.

23- Biomathematics =  It deals with the study of biological processes using mathematical techniques and tools. For Example: “To analyze the data of the animal’s population”.

24- Biogeography = It deals with the study of the occurrence and distribution of different species of living organisms in different geographical regions of the world. For Example, Acacia is found in the desert.

25- Bioeconomics = it  deals with the study of organisms from an economical point of view.  For Example the cost or profit value of the yield of wheat.
